Your Pharmacist Does More Than Fill Prescriptions

You may be surprised by how much your pharmacist can do for you. In honor of National Pharmacists’ Month we’ve put together a little guide. See how your neighborhood pharmacist is an untapped health resource for you and your loved ones.

Did you know, pharmacists can help you:

Find the right OTC product
Dry scalp? Athlete’s foot? From your head to your toes, pharmacists can steer you to effective non-prescription care.

Quit tobacco products
When you’re ready to call it quits (*cough* there’s no time like the present *cough*), your pharmacist can advise you about cessation products and expectations for success.

Get vaccinated
If you didn’t know it before the pandemic, you probably do now. Pharmacists can provide vaccines for viruses like COVID and influenza. They can also administer routine childhood vaccines, thanks to an emergency federal authorization.

Avoid dangerous drug interactions
This may seem obvious, but your pharmacist is an expert at interactions between not only prescription meds but also OTC treatments. Be sure to let yours know any meds or supplements you are taking whenever you fill a prescription.

Control chronic diseases
If you have diabetes, high blood pressure or issues with cholesterol, your pharmacist can be an expert interim resource for managing care or treating symptoms between doctor visits.

Understand care instructions
Happens every time, right? You think of a question after you’ve left the doctor’s office. Your pharmacist may be able to help with more than just guidance about your medications.

Discover health risks
Wellness screenings at your pharmacist for things like blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels can help you assess your health risks between physicals.

Stick to your treatment regimen
Whether you’re dealing with side-effects or forgetfulness (it’s tough remembering to take your meds), pharmacists can advise you on strategies for staying on top of your care.

Stay up to date with current health issues
Am I eligible for a COVID booster vaccine? When should I get my flu shot? Whether you have specific questions or just want to know what’s happening in health-wise in your community, your pharmacist is a great resource for expert answers.
